So today was interesting to say the least! Washington DC made a first impression on me that I will never forget!
Madelon (the roomie) woke up and made our way around the big city around noon today! First thing was first so we went and found a local place to eat that was really close to our house! It was called "Good Stuff eatery" and it was way overpriced and not much food like everything else around here! I am used to my TEXAS cheeseburgers and this definitely could not compete! First of all it was the size of my fist and second the MIDDLE WAS RAW...sick...so thanks to my well done upbringing I ate the outside of the burger and left the mooing middle for the trash!
After lunch, we decided it would be a good idea to walk around the Capital and find out where we would be working! I saw the supreme court, the capitol itself, and topped it off with the Longworth building where I will be working! My office building is just a block away from the capitol and the view is absolutely amazing! I sent Dad, Lauren, Mom, and all the best friends a picture and everyone thought it was beautiful as well, but my dad's response was my favorite. Instead of texting me back he called and said "Wow Ang, with you working in a place like that you are going to forget about all of us dirt farmers!" LOL I love that man and I know that I wouldn't be able to experience what I am right now without that "dirt farmer" working so hard to get me here! I can not wait to start work! I wanted to take a picture infront of my office but Madelon told me not to be "that person", so I just took one outside!! LOL
Following our office finding, we decided to stop by a local gym to see how much a membership would be for the few months we will be here. This might have been my favorite part of my day!! So, we walk in and obviously with my thick accent they immediately asked where I was from, so I told them Texas and they were not surprised! A lady then walked out and I asked How the was and she replied with "I'm peachez" and Madelon followed with "oh good" because she thought she said she was "peachy" and didn't believe that was really her name!! Needless to say this was a really awkward/funny moment and I could not contain my laughter! We left shortly after she told us it would be $79 a month, I don't want to work out that bad LOL!
After that our feet were sooo tired so we came home for a minute before venturing out to see more of the city and find a grocery store! When we got home so did the rest of the other interns and we met the rest of the people who are living on our floor! I LOVE everyone so far and I could not be more thankful for the instant friends I have already made! We all decided to go to the grocery store called "Safeway" because everyone realized we can't afford to eat out all the time! This adventure was one I will never forget! Reason number one: This was my first trip on the Metro and there are definitely some characters in this city! Reason 2: I had to carry a suitcase to fit all of our groceries in (embarrassing) and reason 3: I thought we were going to get mugged on the way back because there are some incredibly SKETCHY people in this city. One thing I learned is you always keep your purse in front of you so that in a large group of people you don't get your pocket picked, oh and people look like they hate their lives when they walk around the metro station! LOL NOT MEEEE I loooooove it here!
Finally we made it home and a group of us went to dinner at "bullfeathers" which is a really fun bar/restaurant full of other interns! I am now back at the house watching the Kansas game in my sweats! Life is SOOOO good and I can not wait to see what else this city has in store for me!
Love you all and I will blog again tomorrow!!
I am so glad you had such an adventerous first day in D.C.! The hamburger thing grossed me out, thanks! :) You be careful and stay way away from the "sketchy" people! I love you, hope your 2nd day is as wonderful as your 1st!
